El Verde recorded their first Copa America win in 18 years when they defeated Ecuador on matchday two and are on the verge of reaching the quarterfinals, writes Stefan Coerts.
SANTIAGO, Chile — Heading into this Copa America, Bolivia seemed to have little chance of making it out of Group A. Mauricio Soria’s men had not won a single match at the tournament since making it to the final on home soil in 1997, going 18 years and 16 games without victory at the continental championship.
Yet El Verde have upset the odds in Chile.
They started the tournament with a creditable draw against Mexico, before recording a surprising 3-2 win over Ecuador on Monday.
