Biello charged with difficult task of guiding Impact to postseason

With key players missing and low morale inside the locker room, Mauro Biello succeeds Frank Klopas at a less than opportune time, writes Nick Sabetti.

MONTREAL — Perhaps it came a little earlier than expected, or perhaps it should have happened a lot sooner, but the Montreal Impact’s decision to fire Frank Klopas and replace him with assistant coach Mauro Biello on Sunday always felt, in some way, inevitable.

With his previous, less-than-stellar record with the Chicago Fire and the Impact’s history of impatience with coaches, it was never likely that Klopas, when taking over the reins at the beginning of 2014, was ever going to last the full length of the initial three year (2 + 1) contract he was given.
