Chairman Michael Schade isn't shying from the notion that Leverkusen must eventually sell its stars and has expressed hope that the club will sign an American player.
LEVERKUSEN, Germany — Michael Schade leaned forward and offered a wry smile. Slightly hushing his voice, the Bayer Leverkusen chairman decided to share the "secret of our business."
In 2013, Leverkusen bought Son Heung-min from Hamburg for 10 million euros ($11 million). Two years and 26 goals later, the South Korean midfielder was on his way to Tottenham. Bayer's fee: 30 million euros.
That, as Schade explained, is just the Leverkusen way.
