Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong ‘prepared to take certain risks’ with ankle injury to play at Euro 2024

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has offered an update on his ankle injury after joining up with the Netherlands squad for Euro 2024.

The Dutch ace has not played since being stretchered off against Real Madrid in April after suffering another ankle injury and admits he’s still some way short of match fitness.

“I am prepared to take certain risks for a European Championship with the Dutch team, but the most important thing for me is that it does not become a chronic ankle injury,” he told De Telegraaf.

“That is not the case yet and that is why I have not had surgery on the ankle.
