Barcelona wanted Aguero before Suarez

The Catalans' former sporting director has revealed the striker was the club's top transfer target in 2014, only for Manchester City to reject the approach.

Barcelona wanted to sign Sergio Aguero ahead of Luis Suarez, according to the club's former sporting director Andoni Zubizarretta.

Suarez moved to Camp Nou from Liverpool in July 2014, but Aguero was top of the Catalans' shopping list before Manchester City rejected the approach.

Zubizarretta told Marca: "We had some options. The first was not Suarez. He knows it. In winter we considered the signing of Aguero.
