Barcelona are set to announce that young midfielder Marc Bernal has signed a new long-term contract with the club later this week.
Bernal’s contract will run until 2026 but when he turns 18 next May it will automatically extend to 2029, according to ESPN and Jijantes.
The club have also inserted a release clause set at €500 million to ward off any potential admirers.
Premier League sides Newcastle and Manchester United have been said to be looking at Bernal but will now have to look elsewhere for midfield reinforcements.
Barca have made the move to reassure Bernal of his future after he suffered a heartbreaking ACL injury just after breaking into the first team.
