Barcelona have reportedly “all but given up hope” of landing Frenkie de Jong, as Manchester City are set to pay €70 million plus €20m in bonuses for the midfielder.
According to Goal’s Sam Lee, City feel they’re in pole position and have been talking to the Dutch star for months.
They are hoping to do a deal for the 21-year-old in the next few months. They will loan him back to Ajax for the rest of the season, and he’ll then move to the Etihad Stadium next summer.
The report reckons Barca have pretty much given up hope of signing De Jong, as they are unwilling to match City’s offer.
