After eliminating Madrid with a 4-1 win, De Jong told reporters Barcelona had asked him to do his best to try to eliminate Madrid with Ajax. Now, we are hearing confirmation from club president Josep Maria Bartomeu that they did indeed make that request when they signed him.
Speaking to Cadena SER, Bartomeu confirmed the story, adding that he was delighted with the young midfielder’s performance.
