Barcelona confirmed on Monday the new squad numbers for midfielders Frenkie De Jong and Carles Aleñá, and the new signing will get to keep his Ajax number.
Aleñá, who made a switch from 26 to 21 in the middle of last season gets another number now as he’s agreed to give up the 21 shirt to De Jong, who has used the number both at Ajax and the Dutch national team. Before Aleñá for the last six months, other notable Barça players to wear the number 21 are former Barça player and manager Luis Enrique and do-it-all full-back Adriano Correia.
