The manager will not finish his first season after a disappointing first tournament in charge of the Guadalajara side.
After winning titles at his two previous stops, manager Gustavo Matosas will leave his most recent stop in Liga MX empty handed.
Matosas and Atlas are parting ways, the club announced Monday. Atlas has won just once in its last five matches and has managed only 17 points, making the Liguilla an unlikely possibility.
The final straw seems to be this weekend's 2-1 defeat to Leon after the same team eliminated Atlas from the Copa MX earlier in the week.
