To best understand where Arsenal find themselves on the eve of Arsene Wenger's 21st season at the club, it is worth considering what has happened to music.
In 2002, Steve Jobs held a series of meetings with executives from two of the world's biggest record labels: Warner Music and Universal. He wanted to pitch them the idea of an online music store, from which listeners could download -- for less than a dollar, pound or Euro -- songs "a la carte." The music industry was, understandably, resistant. After all, the sale of albums underpinned their billion-dollar industry; they had no incentive to indulge an idea that threatened the status quo.
