When Barcelona signed Wojciech Szczesny for the rest of the 2024-25 season to replace the injured Marc-André ter Stegen, the consensus was that the new signing would immediately take over for longtime backup Iñaki Peña, who had struggled last season in a consistent run of games when Ter Stegen was out with a back injury.
But Peña has more than risen to the challenge this time around, and has firmly established himself as the undisputed starting goalkeeper with fantastic performances in huge games against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid that cemented his place in Hansi Flick’s first XI.
