Martinez has forged a strong partnership with Pau Cubarsi in the heart of the backline and appears to be first choice - even after Ronald Araujo’s return to fitness.
Flick was full of praise for the veteran ahead of the weekend’s clash with Leganes.
“Iñigo, he’s adapted and is performing at an incredible level,” he told reporters.
“He’s an absolute leader and gives everything for this club; he’s a great example for the rest.
