Tesho Akindele started his tenure as a Canadian international with some nerves, but a goal and assist on Tuesday helped him overcome his tentativeness.
TORONTO — Tesho Akindele admitted that he felt nervous in his first international match for Canada last week, but Tuesday night's 4-0 win over Dominica was a different story for the 23-year-old attacker.
Akindele, who only committed to Canada's national team a few weeks ago, was immediately slotted into Benito Floro's starting lineup last week — a 2-0 victory at Dominica in the first leg of the home-and-away World Cup qualifying series between the two nations — and despite appearing to fit in right away, both he and his coach said that the FC Dallas man was a bit tentative in his first step onto the international stage.
