U.S. star Abby Wambach had more than the team's win to celebrate Friday, thanks to the Supreme Court's gay marriage ruling.
The USA's 1-0 victory over China Friday that sent the team to the World Cup semifinals might have been the second-biggest news of the day for star forward Abby Wambach.
Earlier Friday, a U.S. Supreme Court ruling legalized same-sex marriage in the 14 states that currently prohibit it. For Wambach, who married former pro soccer player Sarah Huffman in 2013, the ruling has personal meaning.
"Obviously it impacts my life personally, but everybody on our team was super happy and excited about it," Wambach told the AP.
