2 FIFA Candidates Drop Out of Presidential Race

Calling FIFA a dictatorship under Sepp Blatter, Luís Figo dropped out of the organization’s presidential race Thursday. The announcement by Figo, a Portuguese and a former FIFA world player of the year, came hours after Michael van Praag, the Dutch soccer federation president, also withdrew from the May 29 poll of 209 FIFA member federations. That left only Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan in the race to oppose Blatter.

u25a0 Lokomotiv Moscow won the Russian Cup, defeating Kuban Krasnodar, 3-1, in extra time to lift its first trophy in eight years.

u25a0 Ghent ended its 115-year wait for the Belgian league title with a 2-0 victory over Standard Liege.
