Football is the biggest sport in the world, garnering a following of over 3 billion people from all over the globe. Football stadiums are filled by deeply passionate fans of all stripes, who follow their pet clubs, cheer on their favorite teams and players, and often times play the game in their free time, either for entertainment purposes or as a form of exercise.
The History of Football
The history of the game is long and complicated. Many have posited that the game’s existence can be traced back to the Ancient world, specifically China. A game of a similar nature was played in China, however, many have pointed out that the game called cuju has certain differences, which make it a lot different from the football we play today. However, the inspiration for modern day football, may just lie within this Chinese predecessor.
The game as we know it today was invented in the 19th century, and the first ever rules for it were drawn up in Cambridge University in 1848. These, so-called, Cambridge rules have largely gone out of favor today, however, their drafting remains the point where the game proper first became official.
Football Today
As the game’s origins can be traced to England, it only makes sense that the English love for the sport is unparalleled in the world. Some of the most popular clubs, players, and football leagues are played in the United Kingdom. However, the sport is popular all over Europe (and the world in general), with the biggest European league being the Union of European Football Association Champions League, or more commonly known as the UEFA Champions League.
The Champions League is the biggest event in the world of European, international football, drawing in fans and punters, not just from Europe, but from all over the world. With the 2022 iteration of the League drawing to a close on May 28, many suggestions for Champion Leagues betting can be found online, putting up predictions, analysis, and expectations as to the winner of the final. In this article, we are going to give our own predictions and expectations, while taking a look at the two clubs going head-to-head in the final.
The 2022 UEFA Champions League Final
On May 28, the Final match of the UEFA Champions League will be played, between two of the most prominent football clubs in the world today. On one hand, we have the English club, Liverpool. With six championship titles under their belt, the club holds the distinction of being the third most successful club in the Champions League (tied with the German club Bayern Munich).
In the 2022 Champions League, Liverpool started off on the right foot, and have been going strong since, only losing one of the matches in which they competed. On March 8, Liverpool faced off against Internazionale Milan. Aside from this loss, and one other tie against Benfica, Liverpool have won every game they’ve played, and are facing off against Real Madrid. Among Liverpool’s rank of star players, one that has been caught in the limelight in 2022 is Mohamed Salah. A fantastic player, hailing from Egypt, many fans of the club were sad on account of rumors that he would be leaving after the League. However, rumors have been laid to rest, as Salah won’t leave anyway, whether Liverpool wins or loses the final.
In recent interviews, Salah has explained that he is more motivated than ever to go up against Real Madrid, as Liverpool players are motivated more than ever, after their defeat in the 2018 iteration of the League. However, manager Jurgen Klopp tells a different story. He explains that the game is not about and that it shouldn’t be revenge, but who can blame the players for wanting to redeem themselves in the eyes of the fans, and the international public.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, has not had the spotless success in the Champions League that their rivals have seen. Out of the twelve matches in which they’ve participated, they lost four, including against Manchester City and Chelsea. These losses have made a couple of Real Madrid fans worry for the final, however, passions remain high, and supporters remain faithful. Especially considering that Real Madrid are the undisputed champions of the League, having won more titles throughout their history than any other club.
Final Thoughts
Based on the track record and stakes, Liverpool seems to be the fan favorite to take the Finals of the 2022 iteration of the Champions League. With only one loss throughout the League, and a drive to defeat the club that humiliated them in the last League, Liverpool’s players seem to be a lot more into the game, and most are expecting an overwhelming victory for the British club.
