Many eyebrows were raised when Qatar was awarded the 2022 World Cup for a variety of reasons, most of which centered around the extremely hot summers in the country.
That went the world's largest sporting event would be played in 115-120 degree weather, which just didn't seem to make sense.
Now, FIFA has announced that they will switch the World Cup dates to either January/February or November/December instead of the traditional June/July dates.
This change would cause a major disruption to soccer leagues around the world, who leave June/July as their offseason for international play and the World Cup. Club soccer teams have asked FIFA to consider May 2022 as well, despite the intense heat.
There is also a clash with the 2022 Winter Olympics, the dates of which haven't been announced yet.
According to USA Today, temperatures in Qatar average around 71-75 degrees in the winter.
