Jurgen Klinsmann announced his final 23-man roster for the 2014 World Cup. The head coach and his staff cut seven players after evaluations held at the team camp at Stanford University that started May 14.
Here is the full roster:
Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan, Tim Howard, Nick Rimando
Defenders: DaMarcus Beasley, Matt Besler, John Brooks, Geoff Cameron, Timmy Chandler, Omar Gonzalez, Fabian Johnson, DeAndre Yedlin
Midfielders: Kyle Beckerman, Alejandro Bedoya, Michael Bradley, Brad Davis, Mix Diskerud, Julian Green, Jermaine Jones, Graham Zusi
Forwards: Jozy Altidore, Clint Dempsey, Aron Johannsson, Chris Wondolowski
Cuts from the preliminary roster include Michael Parkhurst, Brad Evans, Clarence Goodson, Joe Corona, Maurice Edu, Terrence Boyd and Landon Donovan.
In a shocking move, Klinsmann kept 18-year-old Julian Green, who currently plays for Bayern Munich. He officially pledged his allegiance to play for the U.S. rather than Germany in April. Read more on Julian Green here.
Donovan is one of the most notable cuts from the final roster. He leads the U.S. MNT in World Cup goals with 5. That's as many as Cristiano Ronaldo (2), Robin Van Persie (2) and Lionel Messi (1) have combined.
With Donovan's omission from the roster, only two players have scored World Cup goals: Clint Dempsey (2) and Michael Bradley (1).
