SMU will be without offensive line coach Jamal Powell indefinitely due to an undisclosed illness, forcing first-year Mustangs coach Sonny Dykes to shuffle his staff.
According to a team spokesperson, there is no timetable for Powell's return, but Dykes indicated Powell would miss this season.
"Losing Jamal for the season, he'll be back," Dykes said. "The great thing about his situation is that we anticipate him making a full recovery and being back with us hopefully sooner than later.
"But it's always hard. You've got these offensive linemen, a lot of them are here because of Jamal and have a really tight bond with him.
