UNIVERSITY PARK -- The reputation follows the SMU defense around, the whispers no longer quiet nor hidden from the Mustangs. With each tick of the scoreboard, and with each offensive head coach hired on the Hilltop, SMU develops more of a standing as an offensive school.
The Mustangs score points. That's been familiar. The Mustangs give up points. That's also familiar. Under new coach Sonny Dykes, the defense hopes to stiffen and support an offense that boasts a third-year starter at quarterback and a 1,000-yard rusher in the backfield.
"On paper, I think we're improved," Dykes said.
