Why Peruna didn't run during SMU's win over UConn

If you were at Gerald J. Ford Stadium on Saturday for SMU's 49-28 win over Connecticut, you might have noticed something odd when SMU scored -- Peruna, the team's Shetland pony mascot, wasn't running across the field. In fact, though the mascot was on the sideline to start the game, he soon went back to his stable.

The mascot's Twitter account sent out a message letting people know what was wrong -- he was feeling a little under the weather.

I had a belly ache today and I had to go home early. Tried to stay as long as I could but I knew @SMU_Football would be ok w/o me #beatUCONN

Peruna, the ninth horse to bear the name, would have had to run seven times during SMU's win.
