UNIVERSITY PARK -- SMU's ground game continues to shrink at a remarkable rate.
The Mustangs ran for only 23 yards in an overtime loss to Cincinnati on Saturday. SMU (3-4, 2-2 in the AAC) has a total of 142 yards rushing in the last three games combined.
The season average is down to 98.6 yards per game, which puts the Mustangs at No. 123 out of 129 FBS-level schools. A year ago, with the same cast of lead backs, SMU ranked 42nd at 184.4 yards rushing per game.
"We've got to play better up there,'' coach Sonny Dykes said.
