TULSA -- The disappointment of not going to a bowl game, combined with losing a season finale against a struggling Tulsa team, had first-year SMU coach Sonny Dykes riled up after the game.
SMU got behind 21-0 in the first half and never fully recovered, as Tulsa defeated SMU 27-24 Saturday afternoon in front of crowd of 17,159 at Tulsa's H.A. Chapman Stadium.
The loss for SMU (5-7, 4-4 AAC) knocked the Mustangs out of the postseason. For Tulsa (3-9, 2-6), it ended a dismal season on a positive note.
"I told our players after the game we got exactly what we deserved," Dykes said.
