To stand a chance against TCU, SMU must improve 'anemic' red zone offense in Battle for the Iron Skillet

UNIVERSITY PARK -- The SMU Mustangs do not need a math major to know that three touchdowns on 17 trips inside the opponents' 20-yard line is not a winning equation.

But coach Chad Morris was a math major before becoming an offensive guru. So his team must cram during a short week for Friday's tough assignment -- the Battle for the Iron Skillet versus rival TCU at Ford Stadium.

"We've got to score more points," Morris said.

SMU's power spread has been hard to stop between the 20s. The Mustangs rank 28th nationally in total offense per game -- 20th in rushing, 53rd passing -- compared to 76th last season.
