Reigning U.S. Junior Amateur champion Noah Goodwin of Corinth received a sponsors exemption Tuesday to play in next week's AT&T Byron Nelson at Trinity Forest Golf Club.
The invitation to Goodwin follows a Nelson tradition of inviting top amateurs, including Justin Leonard, Tiger Woods, Scottie Scheffler and Jordan Spieth.
Goodwin learned the news on the 50th birthday of his father, Jeff, who will caddie for his son in the third round if he makes the cut. Goodwin, an SMU freshman, may have a bit of a home-course advantage playing at Trinity Forest, where the Mustangs practice.
"The fact Noah was informed of his exciting news on my 50th birthday is extra special and certainly memorable," Jeff Goodwin said.
