UNIVERSITY PARK - With conference play looming, SMU was hoping to close its long homestand with solid performances in back-to-back games.
The Mustangs got that and more on Monday night, overwhelming Stanford, 72-49, before a sellout crowd of 6,923 at Moody Coliseum.
The Cardinal seemed a worthy test for SMU, which has struggled against some other traditional programs. But the Mustangs' losses to Michigan and USC seemed a distant memory.
About the only thing SMU didn't do properly was create drama. The Mustangs (9-3) virtually put the game away in the first five minutes, dominating the taller Cardinal (7-4) in all phases.
