GREENVILLE, N.C. -- After blasting his SMU team for uninspired play in its worst performance of the season, coach Chad Morris said Saturday’s game against East Carolina would say a lot about the Mustangs.
He got the response he wanted, and then some.
The Mustangs transformed from humiliating loser to dominating winner. And their 55-31 victory over ECU before 42,908 at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium proved significant on multiple levels.
The American Athletic Conference victory moved SMU (5-5, 3-3) to within one game of bowl eligibility. The Mustangs also ended all hope for East Carolina (3-7, 1-5) going to a bowl.
