UNIVERSITY PARK -- SMU has raised enough funds to begin construction on an indoor practice facility for its football team, university president R. Gerald Turner said during the introductory press conference for new head football coach Sonny Dykes on Tuesday.
Turner said that the school has raised 80 percent of the funds required to construct the facility, enough to begin construction on the project. Turner, who has been president at SMU since 1995, expects to break ground in the first half of March.
"We announced to the board on Friday that we had reached the 80-percent level for an indoor performance center and that we would be looking to fund the rest of the 20 percent," Turner explained at the press conference.
