SMU signed head football coach Chad Morris to a three-year extension that will keep him under contract through 2023.
The school's board of trustees approved the amendment to Morris' contract Wednesday afternoon, athletic director Rick Hart said.
SMU basically secured Morris for an additional seven years. He signed a six-year contract worth about $2 million annually when he was hired in December 2014.
"It's a commitment from Chad, and it's a commitment from us," Hart said. "We're excited about it, and Chad's excited about it.
"It reflects our overall commitment to the program. It reflects how we feel about him as a person, the way he represents the university, what he's done as a football coach.
