SMU might be getting one of its key players back for an extra year.
Mustangs quarterback Matt Davis has applied for a sixth year of eligibility after missing most of the 2016 season due to injury.
SMU spokesperson Brad Sutton told The Dallas Morning News that Davis is still waiting on a decision from the NCAA.
After transferring in from Tyler JC by way of Texas A&M, Davis grabbed a hold of the starting job late in the 2014 season. As a junior in 2015, Davis broke out with 2,263 passing yards, 761 rushing yards and 26 total touchdowns.
