UNIVERSITY PARK -- Running back Xavier Jones is moving closer to good health, a development that would help SMU's offense.
Jones has been slowed since pre-season camp because of a knee condition. His contribution has dramatically fallen as a result.
In 2017, Jones ran for 1,075 yards and averaged 5.9 yards per carry.
Jones has dropped this season to 103 yards with a per-carry average of 3.3. He had nine runs for only 28 yards in last week's win against Houston Baptist.
Coach Sonny Dykes said Jones looked "better than he has looked'' in practice at the start of the week.
