Hard-hitting safety Wes Hopkins, inducted this year into the SMU Athletics Hall of Fame, died on Friday according to former Philadelphia Eagles teammate Garry Cobb.
"He played the game with #Passion and #Commitment,'' Cobb said on Twitter. "He was a great player, a great teammate and we will all miss him dearly.''
Cobb did not give a cause of death. Hopkins, 57, had been involved in legal action against the NFL concerning concussions.
Hopkins came to SMU as a walk-on and ended as an all-Southwest Conference safety in 2011-12.
