The American Conference saw revenue drop by six percent in 2016-17, according to a report from The Orlando Sentinel.
The conference saw $74.47 million in total revenue, down from $79.297 million in 2015-16. It was the first decline in revenue for the league since the year after Louisville and Rutgers left the American (2014-15). Documents obtained by The Sentinel showed that the American earned $42.179 million from postseason tournaments and more than $20 million from television and radio rights deals.
Revenue will be a big factor for the conference as it begins negotiations for a new television deal following the 2018-19 season, commissioner Mike Aresco told SportsDay during the AAC's annual meetings last month.
