Quarterback change isn't enough to lift Sonny Dykes, SMU to victory against Michigan

ANN ARBOR -- Down 14-7 late in the first half, SMU was on trying to score before halftime and answer No. 19 Michigan's most recent touchdown.

Without any timeouts, quarterback Ben Hicks took the snap with 17 seconds on the clock and threw toward the sideline, where junior wide receiver James Proche was running a wheel route.

Hicks didn't see Wolverines safety Josh Metellus lying in wait, though. Metellus jumped the route, picked it off and streaked the other way with a convoy of blockers in front of him. 73 yards later, the Mustangs were down 21-7 with no time left on the clock.
