Quarterback Ben Hicks to transfer

SMU’s record-setting quarterback is moving on.

Three-year starter Ben Hicks announced Wednesday that he will be transferring away from the program.

“[I’m looking for] a chance to really start fresh in my last year and move forward with the rest of my life, whether that be football or whether that be finding out where I’m at,” Hicks told Pony Stampede’s Billy Embody.

Hicks rewrote the SMU’s record book in his time on campus. He leaves as the program’s leader in career passing yards, passing touchdowns, completions and total offense.

The redshirt junior is coming off of a tumultuous year in which he lost the starting job to freshman William Brown before regaining it three games later.
