UNIVERSITY PARK - The misery continued to pile up for SMU on Thursday night. The Mustangs endured their third consecutive last-second, soul-crushing loss.
South Florida did it this time. David Collins, not the main option on the play, threw in a three-pointer from the corner with 6.2 seconds remaining to defeat SMU, 67-66 at Moody Coliseum. Ethan Chargois took the Mustangs’ last shot and missed on a three-pointer.
The Mustangs (12-10, 4-6 AAC) lost their previous two games, at Wichita State and Cincinnati, in a similar manner. Each game was decided at the finish.
“I’ve been coaching for 30-some years, and I can’t remember three more heart-breaking games back to back to back,’’ SMU coach Tim Jankovich said.
