UNIVERSITY PARK -- That SMU had something on the line this late in the season shows how far they have come under Chad Morris.
That the Mustangs were still alive late against South Florida on Saturday night was a testament to the young team’s hunger to take the next big step.
But their strong play was not enough against one of the American Athletic Conference’s best teams. In the end, SMU couldn’t overcome its mistakes and the big plays of USF quarterback Quinton Flowers. The Bulls hung on for a 35-27 victory at Ford Stadium.
It was a tough one for SMU to take, considering the opportunities they couldn’t capitalize on.
