Here are a few takeaways from SMU's 77-71 win over South Florida on Sunday:
Jimmy Whitt returns
After missing SMU's last two games with injury and averaging only 6 points per game in his previous three starts, point guard Jimmy Whitt rocketed out of the starting gate in Tampa. While he only scored 6 first-half points, Whitt made a concerted effort to create transition offense. The Mustangs scored 12 fast-break points before the half and 18 on the day. Whitt, who played 39 minutes with a taped shoulder, tallied 14 points.
Ex-USF guard Jahmal McMurray, returning to the Sun Dome for the final regular season start of his college career, pushed the pace as well.
