SMU basketball head coach Tim Jankovich can't remember exactly when it happened, but at one point during Saturday's 77-57 win over Tulsa, point guard Jimmy Whitt Jr. approached him and winked.
"If you ever need a guy to get 10 rebounds, I'm your guy," Jankovich, speaking on his weekly KAAM-AM 770 radio show, recalled Whitt saying.
Whitt's confidence is well deserved. The 6-foot-3 junior point guard has produced three straight double-digit rebounding games, upping his average to 6.9 rebounds per night. That mark leads SMU and places him as the sixth-best rebounder in the American Athletic Conference, right behind UCF's Tacko Fall, who stands at a towering 7 feet, 6 inches.
