SMU had an open assistant position after Brett Diersen left for Temple last weekend and Randall Joyner moved into his defensive line coach role.
And coach Sonny Dykes will fill it with one of the strongest recruiters of the Dallas area.
Ra’Shaad Samples, who was an assistant wide receivers coach at Texas last year and is the son of Duncanville head coach Reginald Samples, will be one of SMU’s 10 full-time assistant coaches, a source told The Dallas Morning News.
Samples will be able to take recruiting trips off campus to represent the Mustangs and should significantly boost SMU’s local recruiting efforts, especially in the South Dallas area.
