UNIVERSITY PARK - Reggie Roberson Jr. ’s return from injury sparked SMU’s offense and special teams during a 31-30 overtime win against Navy on Saturday at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
Roberson, who had not played in the previous 1 ½ games, turned a simple slant pattern into a 20-yard touchdown play in the second quarter. Roberson made a hard break to the outside after the reception, leaving defenders behind.
Navy went ahead at 14-10 in the second quarter. That lasted 13 seconds of game-time. Roberson returned the following kickoff 98 yards for a score.
“We talked all week about how we needed to make a play in special teams to give us a chance to win and obviously made a big one with the kickoff return,’’ coach Sonny Dykes said.
