SMU's outlook for the 2017 season brightened immediately when Courtland Sutton announced he would return to the Hilltop for his junior season in January. The 6-foot-4 wide receiver from Brenham was projected to potentially be the first Mustang selected in the first round of the NFL draft since Rod Jones and Reggie Dupard went back-to-back in 1986. His return to school was a boon for Chad Morris' offense.
And when Sutton announced his decision, he made a bold statement:
"I'm committed to being the best receiver in college football next year."
The Biletnikoff committee thinks it's possible as Sutton was named to the preseason watchlist for the award that goes to the best receiver in the country each year.
