Jaylon Thomas, a freshman offensive tackle, made significant progress during SMU's bye week, coach Sonny Dykes said on Monday.
Dykes and his staff devoted the majority of the week to working with a core of young players such as the mammoth Thomas, listed at 6 feet 4 and 300 pounds. Thomas responded with a strong performance.
"We felt like he's starting to make a move to have a chance to play for us,'' Dykes said. "He had a great week of practice.''
Thomas made a strong impression during pre-season camp but was set back by an injury.
