Freshman Ethan Chargois' strong start to season is reason for optimism for SMU basketball

UNIVERSITY PARK -- SMU head coach Tim Jankovich knew that his team's success was going to depend on the play of its freshman class this season with so much turnover on the roster. But even the second-year head coach couldn't predict how well first-year forward Ethan Chargois would perform to start the year.

Chargois scored 23 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to lead SMU to an 83-65 win over Louisiana-Monroe Sunday afternoon to improve to 2-0 on the season.

As he went to the bench in the final minute with the outcome secured, the freshman drew a hearty round of applause from the Moody Coliseum crowd of 6,622.
