If you thought SMU recruiting would take a major step back with the departure of head coach Chad Morris, well, you were wrong.
The Mustangs have been red-hot on the recruiting trail this offseason under new sheriff Sonny Dykes and now have the No. 1 recruiting class in the American Athletic Conference.
SMU, which finished seventh in the AAC last year, is firmly ahead of East Carolina, Cincinnati and Houston and holds 17 commitments -- 16 of those are three-star prospects.

WR Rashee Rice, Richland -- One of the top pass catchers in the Dallas-area, Rice picked SMU over several Power Five offers, including Arizona State, California, Missouri, Nebraska and Texas Tech.
