Mike Pinkham coached Gerald Turner in hoops back at New Boston, and that apparently affords him liberties with SMU's president that others might not enjoy. Like when the discussion got around to Ira Terrell, maybe the greatest basketball player in SMU history and, as it happens, a guy Pinkham signed. And after only 88 in-home visits.
Anyway, Pinkham occasionally reminded Turner it'd be nice if, you know, they retired IT's number while he could still speak for himself.
"I'd be lying if I didn't say there were times I was bitter," Terrell conceded Thursday.
"I felt like it was going to happen, but why were we waiting so long?
