The NCAA was dug in against sports betting.
And then the clock hit 10 a.m. Eastern on Monday, and that stance wasn’t as firm.
The governing body for major college athletics seemed to concede in a statement following Monday’s Supreme Court ruling in favor of New Jersey that declared PASPA, the federal prohibition on sports wagering unconstitutional, paving the way for the Garden State and other states to legalize sports betting.
“The United States Supreme Court issued a clear decision that PASPA is unconstitutional, reversing the lower courts that held otherwise,” the release attributed to NCAA chief legal officer Donald Remy said.
