While Russell Wilson wanted to play and did everything he could to play after a hamstring injury, Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett has opted to hold back the nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback vs. the Jets on Sunday, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Hackett's decision was made to allow Wilson time to heal and prevent a lingering injury, sources said. The veteran had been a limited participant in practice this week.
Backup quarterback Brett Rypien, who has taken a significant number of the snaps with the starting offense throughout the week, will start.
