JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- One could argue that Saturday's Florida-Georgia affair -- with all of its offensive ineptitude -- set the sport of football back some, but Florid coach Jim McElwain stood behind a podium and in front of the Gator logo like a proud parent -- ear-to-ear smile and all. As questions about his lethargic offense, which hit the field for the second time in 28 days, and inconsistent quarterback play pelted him, he bristled, reminding reporters that they were at the winner's news conference.
“Guys, this is a good football team; Florida Gators are a good team," said McElwain, whose Gators improved to 6-1 and 4-1 in SEC play after Saturday's 24-10 win.
